John Fishel has served as a Board member of the Diane and Guilford Glazer Foundation since it began operations and was its former Executive Director. In addition to being a board member, John now plays an important role in training and guiding the next generation within the Foundation’s staff.

Previously, Fishel has served in Executive positions in three major communities in North America: Philadelphia, Montreal, and Los Angeles. He was the CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles from 1992 until retiring in December 2009.

Towards the end of John’s tenure at the LA Jewish Federation Guilford Glazer invited Fishel to join him on visits to the RAND Corporation focused on project geared towards achieving peace between Israel and its neighbors called the ARC, a euphemism for peace through economic development. At Glazer’s invitation John oversaw Diane and Guilford’s philanthropic actives before their passing, which focused on a range of projects in Israel and the broader Mideast, as well as projects in strengthening relationships between Israel and the Diaspora.

In his free time, Johns likes to read primarily nonfiction about history and politics. With a strong interest in other cultures, he has taken the opportunity to travel throughout the Mideast, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
